Dock 5, Newport

Come learn about Newport’s commercial fishing Industry with Oregon Sea Grant’s marine extension agent, Kaety Jacobson. Guests will go on a guided walk of Newport’s Port Dock 5 (located across from Local Ocean Seafood) to learn about the various types of commercial fishing vessels, what they catch and the families that own them. Participants need to be dressed for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes. Use the I'm Going! link below to secure your spot--space is limited.

Kaety Jacobson

is based at the OSU Lincoln County Extension office in Newport, where she also serves as county Extension leader. Kaety is an expert in Outreach and engagement who works with the commercial fishing industry, ocean users, researchers, and the coastal community at large to address a variety of ocean and coastal issues. Current Projects include non-fatal injuries to commercial crab fishermen, Direct market seafood sales, and whale entanglements in fishing gear.
