Although based in Pendleton, Barhyte uses mustard seed that is grown in the Willamette Valley, and the company has multiple Oregon State connections. Susan Barhyte — Mrs. Saucy Mama herself — and her husband Jan, an Oregon State alumnus, are both devoted Beaver fans. Their sons Chris and Mike earned Oregon State degrees in hotel restaurant and tourism management and political science, respectively. Barhyte’s food technician, Mike Young, and social media and marketing supervisor, Colette Becker, are both recent graduates as well. Barhyte has worked with the food technology department for consumer paneling and proudly offers both Beaver mustard and wing sauce as part of its product line.
