Wei Te-Sheng (魏德聖)  will present his film BIG as part of his North American tour. Following the screening, Wei will participate in a question and answer session with the audience.

Taiwan has produced many internationally famed directors. Among them are Lee Ang (Brokeback Mountain) and Hou Hsiao-Hsien (The Assassin). But Wei Te-Sheng is deeply cherished by the Taiwanese audience for his passion for his homeland. His films represent the cacophonous complexity of voices rooted in  the history of Taiwan, exploring such issues as identity, ethnic and racial relationships, and historical memory. Wei shot to stardom after the release of Cape No. 7, the second highest-grossing film in Taiwan.   Director Wei is always eager to venture  into new  territory. He released a musical, 52 Hertz I love you, in early 2017.  In 2023, he produced  Big, yet another example of his  adventurous spirit. A children’s movie, Big depicts sick youngsters'  love  and struggle for life.

Big synopsis:

With the theme of children with cancer, BIG brings together the heartfelt stories of six groups of families from different social classes and perspectives. The children in the ward are all with the mark of a warrior, which is a badge of fighting against the disease. There is Jesus V.S. Ksitigarbha, there is a wheelchair rally, and there are children who want to sleep together! There are also parents who always quarrel, but support each other at critical moments. In ward 816, where pain and joy are shared, they seize every moment and cherish the opportunity to say goodbye.
